Acceptable Use
W.J.M. Library-Information Centre actively promotes access by students to a variety of information resources to enable them to:
- become effective and safe users of the Internet and other communicate
- to become motivated, responsible and independent learners
- Acceptable use of W.J.M.'s information technology resources is based on common sense, decency and legal responsibilities applied to the networked computing environment
Unacceptable Use
- sending or displaying offensive messages or pictures. This includes information that is racist, sexist, obscene, irreligious or contains abusive language harassing, insulting or attacking others
- damaging computers, computer systems or computer networks (e.g. by the introduction of computer viruses, physical abuse of hardware, alteration of source codes or software settings etc.).
- violating copyright laws, the legal rights of software producers, network providers, copyright holders and license agreements must be honoured
- using other users' passwords
- trespassing in others' folders, work or files
- intentionally wasting resources, (e.g. excessive downloads, unnecessary printing).
- employing the network for commercial purposes or activities by for-profit institutions or organizations, product advertisement or political lobbying
- using the network to disrupt its use by others
- disrespect of others' privacy and intellectual property
Monitoring
Student use of the school network will be monitored regularly and systematically
Games, movies and music
- may be played on students' own computers (but they must not be connected to the network) before school, at lunchtime and after school. Headphones may be used at these times.
- may not be played on any computer during class times, study periods, free periods, assembly or tutor group meetings. Headphones may not be used at these time
Consequences
Sanctions for abuse of these privileges will be a matter for standard school disciplinary procedures and/or legal action. Sanctions may also include:
- the withdrawal of the right to use the school's electronic information systems
- an instruction from a teacher or teaching assistant to stop using a computer, including a student-owned laptop
- the temporary removal and/or inspection of a student-owned laptop,
- and the removal of inappropriate material from the memory of a student-owned laptop
Borrowing Policy
Students may borrow
- A maximum of 3 items at one time for a period of 2 weeks. This includes fiction, non-fiction and talking books.
- CDs, Videos and D.V.D.s may only be borrowed overnight.
- Newspapers are available for reading in the library
- Magazines are also available for reading in the library and may be borrowed overnight

Generally items may be renewed, unless there is a prior reservation for
