Canada's New Government Helps People in Abbotsford and Surrounding Areas Gain the Skills they Need to Find Jobs
ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 2, 2007) -
Ed Fast, Member of Parliament for Abbotsford, on behalf of the Honourable Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development,
today announced close to $1.4 million in Employment Assistance Services funding over three years to help unemployed workers in Abbotsford
and the surrounding areas prepare for, obtain, and maintain jobs.
"Canada's New Government is proud to support community organizations that help unemployed individuals find and keep quality jobs," said Mr. Fast.
"Not only will this funding help more than 420 individuals in the Abbotsford area who need employment and career assistance, but it will also
benefit local employers and the local economy." The program, which serves a diverse multicultural population, helps participants explore
the education and skills they have brought to Canada and to see how they can apply and market those skills in the Canadian workplace.
Services offered include interactive classroom seminars, individual computer labs, and services in the areas of career decision-making,
job-search techniques, and employability skills. This project is one of many services funded through Service Canada to help people find jobs.
Employment Assistance Services include providing clients with information about the labour market, help preparing résumés,
career-planning services, employment counselling, diagnostic assessment, help with job-search skills, job-finding clubs, and job-placement services".
